Handcrafted Lace Wrap in
The Style of a Ruana.Designed and handcrafted by Sue
Wool & Cotton Road.Exquisite super fine merino wool delicate lace wrap. Hand knitted using the beautiful Estonian Lace Lily of the Valley motifs.
One of a kind garment in so many ways:
- The Ruana was lovingly designed and created, finally being completed after 2 years in the making.
- The design for the Ruana rolled around in my mind for many months, visualising the dress in the 1950/1960's style to compliment the drape of the superfine yarn.
- The yarn was purchased direct from the farmer in NSW.
- Most of the processing of the yarn was performed in Victoria. The yarn was spun in China due to no Australian facilities to spin 2/60 yarn.
- Super fine merino yarn was dyed with copper by Simone Cross, Gum Blossom Yarns.
- The dress was made by Simone from fabric that was made from the same yarn - the fabric was processed in Geelong, Victoria.
- The dress is available for purchase upon request.

The Lily of the Valley motif was created by the Estonian knitters of Haapsula whose shawls/stoles were worn by the Russian aristocracy.
This Ruana was designed and hand knitted by Sue using super fine merino purchased direct from the farmer in New South Wales. It drapes beautifully and feels exquisitely soft.
The Super Fine Merino vintage dress was handcrafted by Simone Cross, Gum Blossom Yarns with fabric produced using the same super fine merino as the wrap. A stunning garment which compliments the Ruana and is beautiful to wear.
Send me a request via the contact page if you would like a sample of the yarn and fabric.

Hand washing is EASY and much quicker than a washing machine.1. Prepare a tub of cold water and mix in a mild soap product. Preferably a pH neutral detergent (Tantech's felted wool wash is best)
2. Examine for dirty spots and wash these areas first. An extremely gentle finger rub will remove most spots and cause no harm to the garment.
3. Immerse the Ruana and very gently squeeze the suds through.Very gently squeeze out as much water as possible.
RINSE, very gently squeeze and lay flat to dry.
SHAPE the shawl while still damp (a spare bed is ideal for drying the shawl).Care Instructions for the dress:
Dry clean or cool gentle hand wash.
Use a pH neutral detergent (Tantech's felted wool wash is best).
Hang in the shade on a padded clothes hanger to dry.Wool & Cotton Road items are made entirely from natural fibres.
Packaging is recyclable and ready to give as a special gift.
I do my best to display the colours accurately but monitors do differ.
